Remember that chair with its stainless steel frame and leather seat you saw at IKEA recently? It looks so contemporary, yet its design is almost 100 years old and goes back to the Bauhaus school of architecture and design.
Founded in Weimar, the Bauhaus moved to Dessau in 1925, where Gropius designed and built the iconic Bauhaus school building. The straight lines and the wide glass facades have become staple elements of architecture around the globe, but even today one can still sense what kind of “shock” these buildings might have caused in 1925.
