Scorned as one of the ugliest architectural sins committed by the GDR government by some, viewed as an example for democratic urban architecture by others: The former Palace of the People, torn down after the Wende, is featured in a new book. Photographer Thorsten Klapsch was the last photographer to capture the material manifestations of a bureaucratic culture that disappeared almost overnight. See his photos here.
